Jeff Roth races to sixth in Australian debut at Sydney International Speedway
Jeff Roth’s journey to the Land Down Under began on Saturday evening with the third round of the American Tire and Racing Services Late Model Track Championship at Sydney International Speedway in Eastern Creek, NSW.
With a busy schedule ahead, Roth kicked off the night with a solid 10th-fastest qualifying effort before putting together a strong performance in both his heat race and the speed dash. The Bentonville, Arkansas native advanced from fifth to third in his heat, then finished fifth in the dash.
After contending for the podium in the feature, Jeff got turned around while trying to avoid a lapped-car, relegating him to the tail. He rebounded from the back of the field to finish sixth.
Returning to the newly rebuilt Sydney International Speedway on New Year's Day, Jeff made a strong impression by securing the third-fastest overall time in time trials, despite the drastically different track conditions. Starting from the second row due to a five-car invert, Roth followed up a fifth-place finish in his heat with a solid second-place result in the dash.
The rough track conditions caused by the Sprint Cars took a toll on the Late Model feature, with Roth’s A-Main getting cut short when another competitor damaged the outside retaining wall, prompting officials to halt the race.
